Awesome Authors Worth Meeting

One of my favorite things about the writing community is the amazing authors I get to meet. Today, I'd like to tell you about Regina Welling and her series Psychic Seasons. I was immediately drawn to her premise. How fun, a blind psychic! Here's a little more about her book and her series, Psychic Seasons.

What man in his right mind would want to date a blind psychic? For Kat Canton, the answer was none so she turned away from romance completely.

Until the day a pair of warm brown eyes suddenly came into focus.

Now, she must decide whether to turn toward the light and let love into her life or walk away and remain in darkness.

In Wherever She Goes, the fourth and final book of the Psychic Seasons series, Kat's choice holds more than her own fate in the balance.

Psychic Seasons: A Cozy Romantic Mystery series follows the story of Julie and her three best friends who, led by a pair of slightly pesky ghosts, follow a set of cryptic clues to locate the hidden heirlooms that will allow her to keep her family home.

Along the way, these women will keep you entertained with a blend of comedy, sweetly, clean romance and suspense.

A little bit about Regina

ReGina Welling's mother always said she was born knowing how to read and while that might be a stretch, she can't remember a time when she didn't know how. Naturally, that love of books translated into a love of writing. For her first series, She has written Psychic Seasons; A Cozy Romantic Mystery Series.

A transplanted Mainer, she currently lives in Central New York with her husband and is pretty sure her dog Fritzie thinks he owns them both.

Here's how you can connect with Regina.

Moving With Cats

Hi friends! For the last few months my life has been crazy, but I survived!  I’m all moved into my new house (love it by the way!) and I’m back preparing to launch the first book in the Secret Keeper series. Although we are behind, I still think you can expect the release in May sometime. For now, let me entertain you with Ten Things I Learned About Moving and Cats.

        1.  Cats believe all boxes must be investigated even if they hate the change boxes represent. If things can be pulled from the boxes, even better.
2.    2. They will use the litter box at the most inconvenient times. For example, if a nice family is walking through your house trying to decide if they want to buy it, they take the opportunity to stink the place up. After all, it’s not your house to sell, it’s theirs.
3.      3. If a room feels too clean to them, they will spend hours rubbing their bodies against all stationary objects to be sure their personal scent stays pungent.
4.      4.  If you clean up all their cat toys before a showing they will resort to bringing out their secret stash while you are gone and leaving them in the middle of the most obvious walkways.
5.       5. They are entitled to extra treats just because they have to put up with your moving nonsense, on demand of course.
6.       6.  They will throw up on the freshly cleaned carpet and will make sure to do it in several spots to make it especially difficult to clean.
7.      7.  If you put away their scratching posts so as not to offend the non-animal lovers that may walk through your house they will show you their displeasure by scratching on the freshly painted door trim instead., mostly at night so that you cannot discipline them .
8.     8. When you place them in the new house full on new scents and rooms that could be laden with terrible enemies, they will look at you as if you are the Benedict Arnold of all masters, and will likely turn their backs on you, at least until they want food.
9.      9.  In the new house, they will not rest until they have explored every room, every drawer and every cupboard. Don’t be fooled though, this does not mean they will let you sleep at night because if you make them suffer by taking them from their home, they will wake up often to make sure you are suffering too.
    10.  Finally, when they are all tuckered out, have staked out their territory, gotten their scent on everything possible and complained in general about the gross injustice that is the move, they  will curl up next to you for comfort and familiarity. That’s when you will remember why you love them and why no matter what you would never ever  leave them behind.

In case you’re wondering, mine are settling in fine!  Have you ever moved with a pet? I’d love to hear your story.   Thanks for stopping by!

A Chance to Say Goodbye

Earlier this week I learned that the publisher of my first three books unexpectedly died. She was the first one to see potential in my writing and the first to take me all the way from I-think-I'll-try-my-hand-at-writing to published author.
In my blog today, even though she can't hear me, I want to say to Karen Gray, thank you.

Karen was one of those people that created a small publishing company from nothing and learned the business through hands on trial and error. She was a terrible business women and her office looked like a paper factory had exploded and settled haphazardly around her desk. Often, she was stubborn always thinking her way was right and and sometimes she made me crazy. But she believed in me and dozens of others and she loved seeing our ideas become the printed word.  Most of all, without her faith in me and industry know how, I would be a published author and all that means to me.

So again, to Karen and all those like her that are still out there making publishing a reality for young authors who otherwise wouldn't get a chance, thank you and may God bless your family and those who feel the giant hole in their lives in your absence.

You Will Be Missed.

A Sense of Disquiet and Other Stuff

Hello my friends and readers. In one of my recent posts I told you that I was in the throes of selling my house and building another. At the same time, I’m preparing to release my first book in the Secret Keeper series! Just this week we’ve been through the Super bowl in my hometown and a nasty version of the flu tearing through the house.

Here’s a quick update to my insanity.

We have an offer on my house, due to close March 12th and my new house will be done on March 24th. Yep, if you do the math, I will be homeless for almost two weeks with my three children and five cats.  Hmmm… not exactly sure how that's going to work. Still, my husband I feel so blessed, so lucky to be able to provide for our family even when things are in transition.

In regards to the Secret Keeper, the cover is almost done! Patti my cover artist is doing a great job capturing a sense of disquiet and mystery that surrounds the powerful but vulnerable secret keeper. I’ll give you a snippet, a sneak peek here and can’t wait to show you more on the April 2, the official cover reveal date!

Until then, I leave you with a question. If you could visit the Secret Keeper, what secret would you ask her make disappear?
Until next time……..

Life is fragile

This week one of my neighbors and family friends lost their fourteen year old son in a tragic accident.  He was on a camp out with his church boy scout troop.  Like the other boys, he slept in sleeping bags and ate breakfast. He was new in the troop, just getting to know his troop-mates.  On that morning his family was at home unaware that in a few short hours he would go down a short zip line, not let go in time and be flung against a tree which would take his life.

Life is fragile. Of this I'm sure.

I'm equally as sure that Being the weak and utterly imperfect human beings that we are, we forget this. Caught up in the whirlwind of life and stuff, we take our days for granted. That's okay. So we're weak. We can compensate for that weakness. We can take the time to hold the people we love close whenever we have the chance. We can say we are sorry even when we hurt them on accident. Most of all, we can be our best so that when we are reminded that we don't have forever to make things right, we've have few regrets.

Where am I going with this? I'm hoping that my aching heart and my words will give you the excuse you need to live today to the fullest. I'm hoping that if you have love in your life, you'll cherish it and if you don't, you'll find it or make it by helping others. I'm wishing for all of us to be more gently and less judgmental, that we'll embrace our differences and not waste energy on petty things that distract us from a fulfilling life. Most of all, I'm praying for my neighbors and the millions of others facing loss. One day, we'll face what they face, but until then I'm grateful for the reminder that life is terribly, terribly fragile and life is an imperfect yet sublimely beautiful gift.

Why all authors should live on a island alone (but would write boring books in they did)

In the last couple of months, my blog posts have been pitifully sparse.

Let me tell you why.

I am insane, that’s why.
I thought I could take on selling my house, building a new house, preparing to publish a super-fun supernatural first book in a series (The Secret Keeper) and raising two teenagers and a tween. Oh yeah, and somewhere in there, I have to keep my marriage afloat.

If you looked up overloaded, overstimulated and just plain stretched in the dictionary, there would be a picture of me with a glazed expression in my eyes holding a piece of cardboard with the world HELP written on it. Ever have one of those seasons?  Well my craziness is in full bloom. Soooo….I decided that instead trying hide my temporary mania from you, I’m going to include you.  For the next few months, I’m going to take you on my journey with me. I’m going to tell you about the good, the bad and the ugly and at the end of the day in April when my book releases and my new house is complete and my old one sold, we can both breathe a sigh of relief.

Actually, I think it will be kind of fun. When I get back the manuscript from the editor, you’ll be right there with me. When I finally sell this @#$$$%^& house, feel free to revel in my victory, have an extra piece of chocolate or whatever gets your mojo going.   Expect reports two to three times a week.  I think I can do this and I hope you come along and enjoy watching my suffering and ultimately my survival.   Thanks for stopping in tonight. For tomorrow’s post, Eating Pizza at the park with Cats.  See you soon.
