Do you like the cover? It was custom made by a very talented cover artist that I will definitely use again for the other two books! I love how it captures the vibe of this fun feel-good romance!

Here's me...

Now about my break up story....

When Nikola's boyfriend dumped her in such public way it was easy for me to relate to her confusion and embarrassment. Fresh out of high school, I had an equally embarrassing breakup, minus the entire graduating class gawking at my humiliation. My sweetheart of two years had gone on vacation  with his family. They were camping(and it was the late 80's with no cell phones, so I didn't worry when Mickey didn't call for a couple of days). After five days of silence, I began to worry that something bad had happened to him and no one thought to inform me. The following morning I got in my car and drove three and a half hours San Diego, California. It was a gorgeous day and I found their beach campsite with no problem. Sitting on the sand, I waited for Mickey to come out of his tent. Forty five minutes, then two hours and finally three hours went by. Ah, the patience of young, stupid love. Finally, his mom came out and told me that the relationship was over! Yep, it was that brutal. I was dumped by my boyfriend's mother. Hold on. It actually gets worse!

The next night I didn't sleep. How could I? The love of my life had changed overnight. Surely he was having a moment of insanity and had just forgotten his undying love for me.

I was such a teenager, oh the drama! So I did what any love struck teen would do who was full of optimism and longing, I drove to San Diego again and waited on the same beach. Now looking back, my boyfriend who hated conflict must've struggled for hours watching me, knowing he had to face me! Haha, it kind of makes me laugh. Finally, he showed up. Looking very uncomfortable he came to me and confirmed that he was breaking up with me. No warning signs, no fight. It was just over.

To me, the funny part of this story came later when I arrived home to my Dad. I was raised by a single father who had to be both mom and dad. He is a good man, but at that moment, he was not comfortable with his role. As he watched an endless trail of tears stream down my face, he said, "I'm sorry honey. I know you....' He paused struggling to say the word that no father wants to think about let alone say to his daughter. Then he said, "Llloved" him sounding like the word itself might choke him to speak aloud. It was kind of wretched, but somehow made me smile through my sorrow. In a little time, Mickey and I became friends again and years later on Facebook he said he didn't remember the entire break up scene....Hmm.  So there it is, my oh-so embarrassing break up story and maybe somewhere in the back of my mind, the inspiration for Nikola's gut-wrenching day that led her straight into the arms of five strangers...or so she thought.

What's the most awkward romantic moment that you've ever experienced?  Tell us about it!
And I hope you love Five Days Five Kisses!

What's a coming....

Hi all! I hope the new year is treating you well. I know this is going to be a big year for me. I'm sending my first child to college in mid January and I'm pretty sure my heart is going to break when he leaves for good! Also, there are good book things coming. Last year I published the final book of the Secret Keeper series and fans are loving it! When I hear people say that they are sad to see the series end, I'm not going to lie, it kind of makes me want to do a happy dance.
I love making my readers happy so I wrote another book that will also turn into a series!

The name of the new book is Five Days, Five Kisses and it is a lot of fun. Next week I'll post the cover but for now here's the blurb:
Five Days, Five Kisses comes out in early February and to celebrate there will 5 days of WINNING!

I CAN'T WAIT! Until next week, may your book boyfriends be wonderful!

The Soundtrack of Suspense

With the launch of the final book in the Secret Keeper series, I thought it would be fun to post about what I call, the soundtrack of suspense. Music and a good story go hand in hand, both evoking a feeling, an emotion that let us connect in a very unique way. Today, I want to share with you the songs that I've connected with the very suspenseful, paranormal Secret Keeper series.  In fact, I often play these particular songs before writing to feel what my character feels. Today, I want to share the Secret Keeper soundtrack with you!

Here we go: Belakane is the prequel of the series and the song that fits best is Unsteady by the Ex Ambassadors. I chose it because the main character Belakane always seems to be fighting her crueler nature, leaving her feeling unsteady. Check it out here: UNSTEADY

The Secret Keeper is the first book in the series.
The song I associate with this book is Dark Horse by Katy Perry. Winter, the main character of the series, unwittingly ends up tangling with a force and power so much bigger and more dangerous than she expected, or understood. This song kind nails that emotion, but from the perspective of the mysterious secret keeper. Enjoy.

DARK HORSE

The second book in the series, In The Dying Light is tragic because Winter has become something she thought was horrible. Monster by Skillet is angry and self-loathing capturing some of the heavy emotions Winter fights within herself!

Finally, In Under The Broken Sky, after all the characters have been through, caught up in the personal struggle of a powerful enchantress and the curse she created centuries earlier, Believer by Imagine Dragons is the perfect vibe. The lyrics aren't right on, but it captures the emotion. Each character is definitely a believer by the end of the series! Check out the video Here

So here is the best news of all...You can download The Secret Keeper, book 1 for FREE right now. Grab your copy and find your own songs to capture the mood of the series. Most of all, happy reading!

In Less Than a Month....

I can't believe it is coming so fast. On October 6th, just in time for the season that celebrates all that is paranormal, Under The Broken Sky will be released! For those of you just discovering The Secret Keeper series, this is the final book in the series and fans are excited to find out how it all ends for Winter, Liam, and Belakane.Oh yeah, throw the confetti!

Because it is the end of the series, in this book Winter and Liam embark on an ill-fated journey to find the creator of the Secret Keeper Curse. Their sojourn will take them from the bottom of the United States to the top of the US and even beyond. In this post(without giving away the plot line) I thought it would be fun to show you some of the places they will pass through. See if you recognize any of these landscapes. If you guess right and leave me a message with your email, I'll send you an Ebook version of Under The Broken Sky.

Gook luck, and may you never need a secret keeper!

My Prince Charming

Hi all!
Today I get to take a little break from talking about book stuff and share some happiness with you.

Before I continue, I will tell you though, the final edits on the last book in the Secret Keeper are done and it is in the hands of the printer! Watch for release date info:)

So the happy thing I want to share is that today is my 24th Wedding Anniversary with my sweetheart Matt. The above pic was taken awhile ago but captures my family in all its imperfect glory. The fun thing about our story is that it was not love at first site. He and I were both doing missionary work for our church when we met and in our faith, you dedicate yourself to helping and teaching other people completely while you are on your mission which means, no dating, working, or other activities that a typical twenty something might do. In fact, one day, when our paths crossed, Matt accidentally made me cry and I am not a cryer! We still laugh about that.

So we were friends first and after I was done with my missionary service and back to typical life, I drove to Utah for a friend's wedding. In North Carolina, Matt had given me his number and told me if I came through Utah, to give him a call. While in Utah, I wanted to check out some colleges and it started snowing--A lot! I took Matt up on his offer, and as not to terrify all of Utah with my lack of snow-driving skills, I asked him to drive me around to look at the colleges.

Long story short, we married nine months later and have had an amazing life together. We think this is miraculous because growing up, we were kids of repeated divorce. Our trick for staying together? We follow one simple rule. BE NICE...even when you don't feel like it.

I write stories, often with a happily ever after and they are a lot of fun. But, I wonder if we should really call our Prince Charmings, Prince Nice-guy or Prince I'll-show-up-even-when-it-gets-hard, because really anyone can be charming for a minute. The real princes are the guys like my husband that love you even though you're imperfect and just show up everyday willing to make life the best it can be.

Thanks for letting me share a bit of our story and Happy Anniversary my love:) Here's to twenty four more.
